Flywheel lightened and balanced?

Hi guys,

I have just taken the engine out of my 1973 2103, and have noticed that the flywheel has had material removed out if the back, making it lighter as well as 4 holes drilled into it, to what I assume is balance it. Is this done standard from the factory? Or is this a modification that has been done?

It has had a 5 speed installed at some point, so maybe it was done at the same time
